Welcome to the Osborne Origins website. This site is for dissemination of Osborne genealogical information and coordination of research on Osborne family history. Included are abstracts of public records, linked pedigrees, queries, etc. New information is continually being added. By its nature, Osborne Origins is considered a secondary source. The information here comes from a variety of sources, original and secondary. This site contains information on many unrelated Osborne families and the vast majority of information here does not pertain to the compiler's personal family line.   The Osborne Origins website contains a large amount of information. To organize this information, the website has a number of "layers" and uses multiple browser windows. This page provides help in understanding how to use the Osborne Origins website.

  Family group records linked from generation to generation. There are over 12,600 individuals in over 1,180 families. Many of the individuals given here have links to the source records (see below) where the information on them is found. The Linked Family Records is on another webpage. • Source Records
  Abstracts of vital Records, census records, biographies, court records, etc. The census information includes all 1790-1850 census data for Osbornes (all spellings) in all states. There are over 600 biographies taken from county histories, pensions, and other family records. A record regarding a particular person may contain a link to where that person appears in the Linked Family Records. This enables one to get additional information on that person.   References to books or periodical articles containing significant information on Osborne families. Ordering information is provided when known.
  
  
• The Ausborn/Osborn DNA Project
  Thomas Osborne and Tony Ausburn are co-administrators for the Ausborn/Osborn DNA Project. Participating in the project might help you solve your "brick wall". Of course, the project is also looking for participants whose Osborn lineage is known in order to provide DNA reference points for those still looking for their ancestors. Register Your Reseach Interest

To register your research interest:

1. Your email address to use in the email links.
2. Your name or "handle" as you want it to appear in the email links.
   This can be just your first name, just your last name, your full name, a handle, or even your email address again. Just let me know how you want it to appear. Examples are "Lee", "Lee Osborne", "root digger", or "l-k-osborne@worldnet.att.net".
3. The full names of your ancestors. For Linked Family Records, please give me the Record Identification Numbers(RINs) that appear with your ancestors' names in the Linked Family Records. For instance, my ancestor is Doctor Frank Osburn-4. I have to have the RINs to make sure I have the right people.
   
   For census records, please give me your ancestors' names, what census years, states, county names, and page and line numbers. This is needed to make sure I put your email links where they properly belong.
   
   For will or other probate records, please give me your ancestor's names, the URL (web address) of the page where the will or probate is located at Osborne Origins and the date of the will or probate. This way I will get the email link on the proper will or probate record.

Why get a copy of the Osborne Origins website on CD-ROM when it can be used for free on the Internet? First, you don't need to be online to use it and second, it is very much faster when used from a CD-ROM. The disadvantage to Osborne Origins on CD-ROM is that it is a "snapshot" of the website at the time I make the disk for you and is not continually updated with additional information.

  The best message board to post your Osborn query or message at is the RootsWeb/Ancestry Osborn message board. Postings on this board are automatically forwarded to the OSBORN-L mail list for even broader distribution. I also recommend posting to either the Osborne GenForum or Osborn GenForum message boards as some people use the GenForum boards and not the RootsWeb/Ancestry boards.

• Recommendation
  Join both Osborn and Osborne mail lists to be sure to receive whatever email others might send regarding Osborns. Send to either OSBORN-L or OSBORNE-L, but it is probably unnecessary to send to both. I have a preference for the OSBORN-L list.

4/11/03 - Reorganized source records page

7/7/00 - Minor reorganization of the site. Also fixed a number of links.

6/20/00 - Added capability to make CD-ROMs of the Osborne Origins website.

3/7/00 - Extended last change to link to source records from the Linked Family Records. Now you can easily check out many of the sources where a person is mentioned. Currently this is mostly for census records and some death and marriage certificates. Additional records will be linked in the future.

2/23/00 - Added capability to link from source records to families in Linked Family Records.

2/23/00 - Added HELP page.

11/11/99 - Removed the Chat room and Calendar features and added a SEARCH facility.

5/30/99 - Changed the way Linked Family Records is set up. Family group pages and source information now opened up in separate browser windows.

3/30/99 - Added capability to link notes in Linked Family Records to the source record. Many of the biography notes are now linked.

1/21/99 - Chat room and calendar added to Osborne Origins.

12/31/98 - Osborne Origins moved to AT&T Worldnet. Instructions for download of the Osborne Origins GEDCOM file changed. The Contributors Linked Family Records was replaced with a link to the Ancestry World Tree. Guest Book and Address List features added.
